Isn't Nature Wonderful! .....................Bird & Other Nature

Well I think nature is wonderful. And here Northumberland is teeming with wildlife and an abundance of nature. I would much rather sit in the middle of a wood or beside a stream and watch nature show me the wonders she has to offer than go watch a football match. Well OK maybe I don't like football but I love Rugby and the same applies. My genre tends to be land and seascape Photography, but just occasionally I see something in the animal kingdom that tickles me. It can be the way a sheep or a cow looks at me or the way a duck or swan just happens to flap its wings and it looks like it is dancing on the water and I have to take a shot of it. Here are some of those shots I have taken on my travels. I hope you enjoy my stab at Nature Photography.

Quakers

Quakers

Cute little ducks who's survival is limited within the first few days. They make easy prey when first born and until they have grown a little for predators such as Herons etc. Which unfortunately happened to these two.

Peregrine

Peregrine

Such a powerful and yet beautiful bird is the Peregrine. Imagine being a mouse or vole or even a pigeon. Perhaps the worst fear would be if the Peregrine were to get you in its stare. There would be only one outcome I think. Certain death.

A Majestic bird

A Majestic bird

Out of all the birds the hawk for me is the most majestic of them all. It has power and speed and has to be one of the most frightening of all things to its prey as it swoops down silently from the sky above........

Resting

Resting

A lone starling sits amongst the lobster pots on the quayside. This kind of scene is becoming more and more common as the starlings habitat is being taken away by housing estates and other major building work. Such a shame. .......

REady for take off

Ready for take off!

A swan flaps its wings so camera ready in anticipation. Does it intend to take flight or is it just flexing its muscles. Perhaps its even sending a message to me that it ain’t scared of no guy on the bank pointing something at it........

The Stalker

The Stalker

The male pheasant so cleverly camouflaged amongst the bracken and undergrowth. More than once they have made me just about jump out of my skin as they fly off just a few feet ahead as I walk the moors .......

Natures Brutality

Natures Brutality

As beautiful as nature is there is also the stark brutality of its other face, as shown in this shot of a hawk just after it brought down a wood pigeon. However like all animals it kills to eat, not as some humans do, for pleasure and sport. That is the difference between the human race and the animal kingdom.......

Heron in Flight

Take off

A Heron takes off from the river bank along the Coquet. So graceful for such a large bird. I watched it for a while as it stood motionless then it took flight. It glides across the water so beautifully. Perhaps it has spotted its next meal .. ....... → Buy A Print.........

The Eagle has landed

The Eagle has landed

The magnificent Golden Eagle as it lands. I guess it is now only in certain parts of Scotland that the Eagle can now be seen. Such a pity we are losing our natural wonders. This I took at Warkworth Castle at a bird of prey exhibition........

Well the baby duckling was trying to keep up with mum and from what I could see it was doing pretty well, all things considered. The world and river must seem such a daunting place when you are so small. .......
